A Good Conscience

What does it take to have a good conscience? Well, if we could go through life without ever breaking any of God's laws, we would have nothing to feel guilty about. But I don't know anyone with that kind of record. Only Jesus Christ could confidently ask, "Which of you convicts Me of sin?" and have no fear of being accused (Jn. 8:46).

The Ascension

The repeated appearances of Jesus after His death brought His followers such joy that they must have wanted the visits to continue indefinitely. But on the 40th day after His resurrection, having given His disciples final instructions, Jesus slowly ascended and a cloud hid Him from view.

The Pain That Perfects

As children of the heavenly Father, we can be grateful that He loves us enough to discipline us. Whatever He sends our way or allows to come into our lives is "for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness" (Heb. 12:10).

Beyond The Grave

One of the Bible's prime examples of enduring influence seems an unlikely choice. Abel was murdered by his brother before accomplishing anything we would call significant (Gen. 4:2-8). Yet his "picture" hangs in the Bible's hall of faith with this caption: "By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks" (Heb. 11:4).

Demonstrating For God

We can't put God in a box. He shows the world His supernatural power according to His own will, not ours—and sometimes in ways that don't look miraculous.

Secrets

God is light," the apostle reminded us, "and in Him is no darkness at all" (1 Jn. 1:5). But if that is true, how can a holy God have anything to do with the likes of us?

No Match For God

During the 1930s, a missionary in a primitive African village saw firsthand the conflict between the power of the kingdom of evil and the omnipotence of God.

Light Up The Darkness

I was visiting some believers in eastern Russia when I heard a speaker talk about salt and light. A friend was translating for me.

O God, Why?

Several years ago, the growing season had been unusually good in eastern Michigan. Farmers were elated at the thought of their potential profits. Then, just before harvest, the rains came—and stayed.
