Following The Master

At a dog show near my home, I watched a Cardigan Welsh corgi named Trevor perform. At his master’s command, he ran several yards away and immediately returned, he jumped fences, and he identified objects using his sense of smell. After finishing each exercise, he sat down at his master’s feet and waited for more instructions.

Trevor’s careful attention to his master’s instruction reminded me of the devotion God desired from His people as they followed Him through the wilderness. God led in a unique way. His presence appeared as a cloud. If the cloud ascended, He wanted His people to move to another area. If the cloud descended, they were to stay put. “At the command of the Lord they remained encamped, and at the command of the Lord they journeyed” (Num. 9:23). The Israelites followed this practice day or night, regardless of how long they had to remain in one place.

God wasn’t simply testing the Israelites; He was leading them to the Promised Land (10:29). He wanted to take them to a better place. So it is with us when God asks us to follow Him. He wants to lead us to a place of closer fellowship with Himself. His Word assures us that He is loving and faithful in leading those who humbly follow Him.

In fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey. —Sammis
God asks His children to follow the Leader.

The tabernacle (Num. 9:15) was not only a place of worship, it was intended to be the center of Israel’s national life. This “tent of meeting” also foreshadowed the incarnation of Christ, the living Word who “dwelled” (that is, “tabernacled”) among us in a tent of human flesh (John 1:14).

I confess, I too am a believer in Jesus Christ! My prayer is that everyone reading these comments also come to Jesus as well. No coincidences.God is truly in control even when we/I try to grab the reigns. I mess it up when I do and know His ways are better and much higher than anything I can imagine. I like the phrase at the end the devotion quote”God asks His children to follow the Leader.” What a leader we have in Jesus! Another borrowed phrase from the movie “God Is Not Dead”, God is good, and God is good all the time! Amen to that! God Bless All!

He is not dead. HE IS RISEN!

He was leading them to the Promised Land (10:29). This passage and the article reminds me that our life in this world is just a training camp. People who want to enter the kingdom of heaven have to pass this purification training or detoxification program. We can not be in heaven if we still do what we have done in this world.

    1. henndyg says:

And Jesus is the chief of training instructor in the training camp.

Great insight reference to follow God and obey his commandments.

Very good lesson. Had I truly followed my Lord I can only dream about where I would have ended up with Jesus. Praise God it is never too late to follow him and He leads me now to higher and higher plains. I regret the past but praise him everyday for leading me now.

Thank all of you for sharing today and everyday. I look forward to the comments each day from my brothers and sisters in Christ from all over the world. Thank you Dr. Pers. for fleshing these out from another perspective (no pun intended). I appreciate the Scripture cites today. I pray for you all each day. – ‘ole joe.

I echo the other commenters who thanked Doc_perspective for his perspective. :-). God has given us the same cloud the Israelites had–it is the Holy Spirit. Because Jesus had not yet come, the Holy Spirit was on the outside directing them. But we have the Holy Spirit on the inside once we are born again. Gods word promises that He will lead us into all truth and that we will hear a voice stating “this is the way, walk in it.” He has not left us directionless. He has a plan for each of our lives and the best way to live it out is “step-by-step” trusting Jesus and doing life His way as Doc_perspective stated. Blessings on you all.

The Lord has shown us what His Will is and it is very simple; to act justly, to love mercy, to walk humbly with our God and believe in the One whom He sent, Jesus. Micah 6:8 NIV; John 6:35

If anyone gives a list of do’s or don’ts they are trying to tangle everyone under rules when we have been freed by grace. To understand this read of Jesus’ encounters with the religious leaders and it applies to those today as well who want to put people under bondage again to check lists that people were never able to follow. Believe in Jesus, look to Him and allow His love to flow through you to others.

To The Road Less Traveled, I pray that you will be saved before it is too late.

I enjoy these comments, they are such a blessing to me and I look forward to them each day.

To Doc Perspective, you are particularly blessed with insight and writing. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.

My thoughts and prayers for those who do not have personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I pray for an encounter with the living God-Jesus Christ today. I know that when we have an encounter with the living God we will never be the same person again. We will be transformed because His presence exposes our sinful nature, our corrupt environment and prompts us to reply like Isaiah (Isaiah 6 : 1-8) “Here am I, send me.”

    1. hsnpoor says:

I say “yes & Amen” to your prayer for those who do not know Jesus as their personal savior AND Lord and stand in agreement with you. But once convicted of their NEED for a savior, I would pray that they would ask “what must I do to be saved” before asking to be sent out on a mission trip…:). Amen?

Four steps to Heaven – How to become a child of God

        1. Conviction of Sin: When you have an encounter with the living God, you will be convicted of sin in the presence of a most righteous God. The Holy Spirit convicts and convinces you of sin.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

        2. Confession of Sin: Realizing who God is and realizing who you are in the presence of the living God, confess your sins. Be specific about how you have “missed the mark” of God’s perfect standard.

“That if you confess with your mouth Jesus Christ as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.” Romans 10:9

        3. Repentance: Repentance has two aspects: turning away from sin, and turning toward God.

“Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

        4. Reception: Receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.” John 1:12

        Your ticket to heaven:
“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21

Your ticket to heaven cost: paid in full – John 3:16

You have reserved seating – John 14:2-3

Your ticket to Heaven – Time and Day T.B.A.

AMEN!!! Got that Road_Less_Traveled? The ODB family is a soul-saving mission this morning! To God Be The Glory!

Thank you for the message and reminder that all true believers in the Lord Jesus because of the Spirit in them become disciples and then servants as explained in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. As it is written, true believers are created for good works (Eph 2:8-10); they have the Light of life for others to see too (Jn 8:12/Mt 5:14-16). And I understand these are the reasons they are tasked by the Lord to share the gospel to others.
